Hi Cherrie,
It was a surprise. I took a number of photographs of the owl to try differnt exposures and to catch it in different postures and the owlet wasn't in all of the pictures. In fact, I didn't know there was an owlet until I was cropping the photographs the next day and deciding which ones to post to the blog. I first noticed something fuzzy at the owl's feet in some of the photographs - which I thought was strange. I was a bit startled when the fuzz resolved itself into an owlet with the eyes and beak that you see in this picture.
