The last time I was at the rookery I stepped a few feet over from the main viewing area to get a better angle of view on the osprey's nest and I heard some rustling off to the side. It turned out to be a northern water snake moving through the grass near a log. Today I looked at the same log and saw two snakes sunning themselves. When I got home an examined the photographs on my computer, I found a third snake on the log. You can see the one in the middle and the one on the right easily in the picture above (click on the image for a larger version). The one on the left is only partially in the photograph. Below is a closeup of the left most snake.
